Who I AmI am an artist ...
I am also an art teacher. My job isn't to help children make pretty things that get hung on the family fridge. My job is to teach children problem solving, creative thinking, critical thinking, pictorial literacy, self-expression, and so much more. Through art, one can create new worlds, replicate reality, mimic master artists, experiment with materials, explore thoughts and ideas, entertain and enlighten. With art, the possibilities are limitless. But in teaching, one never stops learning. And the more I teach art, the more I learn from my students, colleagues, and friends. To see the amazing work my students create through their problem solving and critical thinking, check out my teacher site below. |
What I DoThis studio is a place for people who want to learn about art.
What is art? Art is not the pretty picture you hang on the wall. It is not the make-and-take painting done at a craft show. Art is not drawing, or painting, or making anything. Art is understanding - Art is understanding why colors have mood, temperature, and feeling. Art is understanding how line creates form, shape, and pattern. Art is understanding what balance, rhythm, and emphasis mean and how they cause people to make choices they never knew they made. Art is understanding pictorial literacy. And pictorial literacy is a language all of its own. This - being fluent in the language of art - is what my studio is all about. |
